Teach with us
Wanted: Romanian and Greek teachers
We are currently looking for a Romanian language teacher and a Greek language teacher to join our team in Cheltenham. If you are a native speaker of either language and interested in teaching, email reception@inlingua-cheltenham.co.uk.
We are always glad to hear from native-speaker teachers of other languages too, particularly if you are based in or near Gloucestershire.
Which language?
These are the languages we teach regularly in Cheltenham. If the one you want is not here, ask — we have a wide network of teachers and language providers, and we can often source a native speaker for other languages.
Learning a language as an adult, properly
Most people who come to us have tried an app, got some way, and found it did not translate into being able to hold a conversation. Small classes with a native speaker fix that, because you have to speak, and somebody is listening carefully enough to correct you.
Whether you are learning as a hobby, for a move abroad, or to take your career international, we will build the course around where you are going rather than around a textbook.
General conversation
The most common request, and the hardest thing to get from self-study. Small groups, native-speaker teachers, and enough talking time that you actually improve.
Exam preparation
GCSE and A-Level support in several languages, plus preparation for language competency exams. Useful for school students and for adults who need a formal qualification.
Moving abroad
Language plus the practical business of settling in somewhere new — the vocabulary you need for a bank, a landlord, a doctor's surgery and a neighbour.
Language for work
Using a second language in a professional setting: meetings, negotiation, presentations, and the cultural expectations that sit around them.
Our languages and teachers
Every class is taught by a native speaker of the language, so you learn it as it is actually spoken. Several of our teachers also offer exam preparation and cultural lessons alongside general tuition.
Open group classes are for ages 16 and over. Private one-to-one lessons are available in every language. Other languages can be arranged where we can source a suitable native-speaker teacher — tell us what you need and we will look.
GCSE and A-Level support in Gloucestershire
If your son or daughter is taking a language GCSE or A-Level, the speaking component is usually where marks are lost — and it is the part that is hardest to practise at home, particularly in a language nobody else in the house speaks.
We offer GCSE preparation in Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Polish, and A-Level preparation in Spanish and Russian. Lessons are one to one or in a small group, with a native speaker, and can be arranged around the school day. Our Russian teacher is also an exam marker, which is a useful thing to have on your side.
Students from schools across Cheltenham, Gloucester and the surrounding area come to us for this. Email reception@inlingua-cheltenham.co.uk and tell us the exam board and the exam date.
Language training for businesses
Language is a commercial problem before it is an educational one. More than 20% of companies trading internationally report losing business because of poor or absent language skills. Around 45% say they have hit language barriers with overseas clients, and a further 23% have run into cultural ones.
inlingua Cheltenham has more than 25 years of experience in language training, and we work with companies across Gloucestershire to close that gap. We start with general language so your team can hold a conversation, then move into the situations they will actually face — running a meeting, negotiating, giving a presentation.
The other half of the job is cultural. Different countries have different customs and expectations, and misreading them during a negotiation can cost you as much as a missing vocabulary. We take colleagues through the common pitfalls so they can handle any situation with confidence.
How business training works
- Flexible and bespoke. Built around what your team needs and where they are starting from.
- At your premises or ours. We will hold classes at local company locations at a time that suits you.
- Any of our seven languages — French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Japanese, Polish or Italian.
- Other languages too. If what you need is not on the list, we will use our network of teachers and providers to find a native speaker.
Email reception@inlingua-cheltenham.co.uk with the languages, the number of people and roughly what they need to be able to do, and we will put together a proposal.
Common questions
Where can I learn a language in Cheltenham?
inlingua Cheltenham runs foreign language classes at Rodney Lodge, 9 Rodney Road, in the town centre. We teach French, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian and Polish to adults and students aged 16 and over, in the day and in the evening, in small groups or one to one. Every language is taught by a native speaker.
Do you run evening language classes?
Yes. We run both day and evening classes and will arrange them around work where we can. Tell us when you are free and we will tell you what is possible.
Do I need to have studied the language before?
No. We teach complete beginners as well as people picking a language back up after years away from it. Tell us honestly where you are and we will place you accordingly.
Can you teach a language that is not on your list?
Often, yes. The seven listed are the ones we teach regularly, but we have a wide network of teachers and language providers and can usually source a native speaker for other languages. Ask us and we will look.
Do you offer GCSE and A-Level language tuition?
Yes. GCSE preparation in Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Russian and Polish, and A-Level preparation in Spanish and Russian. Lessons are one to one or in a small group with a native speaker, arranged around the school day. Our Russian teacher is also an exam marker.
Can you train our staff at our offices?
Yes. We deliver company language training at local business premises across Gloucestershire at times that suit you, as well as at our own school. Courses are built around what your team needs to be able to do.
How much do language classes cost?
Prices depend on the language, whether you want a group class or one-to-one lessons, and how many hours you want. Email reception@inlingua-cheltenham.co.uk or call 01242 250 493 and we will quote for what you actually need.
Do you teach English as well?
Yes — English is our main business. inlingua Cheltenham is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English in the UK and has taught international students since 1990. See our English courses.
