English in Cheltenham since 1990
inlingua Cheltenham is the only private English language school in Cheltenham — a Regency spa town of 121,000 people on the edge of the Cotswolds. That single fact shapes everything: the people around you are British, not other international students. We teach juniors aged 11 to 18, adults from 16 and learners over 50, in classes of 8 to 12, starting every Monday, all year, from £270 a week. Accredited by the British Council.
Our mission
Our goal is to provide great English classes for all international students. We help students use English with confidence for work, university, and daily life. We have over 30 years of experience, and we are now using new ideas to connect our students to the world.
When you arrive at our school, you will be welcomed into our family. My experienced team will take care of all of your needs. Daniel Foulkes, Director
Tell us about you
Three quite different reasons to learn English with us. Choose the one that sounds like you and we will show you the right courses.
A summer with friends from a dozen countries, or a term inside a real British school. Everything is supervised by our own staff, accommodation is with a host we have visited and checked, and every adult over 18 in that household is DBS checked.
Parents and agents: our safeguarding page sets out our named Designated Safeguarding Lead, our 24-hour emergency line and how to raise a concern.
You have a reason: a university place, a job, an exam score, or simply the intention to stop translating in your head. Classes of 8 to 12 at your exact level, a town where you have to use English outside the classroom, and afternoons you can spend in the Cotswolds.
Also available: one-to-one lessons and online tuition if you cannot travel yet.
English in the mornings with people your own age, and the Cotswolds in the afternoons — gardens, houses, market towns and the kind of unhurried conversation that actually teaches you a language. Small groups, a gentle pace, and time to make friends rather than merely classmates.
Tell us the age, roughly what level of English, and when you would like to travel. We will tell you honestly which course fits — including if the answer is none of ours. Email info@inlingua-cheltenham.co.uk or call +44 (0)1242 250 493.

We are small on purpose. Everyone knows your name by the end of the first week, and if something is wrong you speak to a person rather than a department.

Your destination
Cheltenham has been a spa town since 1716 and became fashionable when King George III came to drink the water in 1788. What that left behind is the most complete Regency town in Britain — and a place that is safe, walkable and genuinely pleasant to spend a few months in.

A very low crime rate and a Purple Flag award for the town centre. Walking home in the evening is unremarkable here.
The school is 50 metres from the high street, and most hosts are within thirty minutes on foot or by bus.
Close to standard southern British English, and generally considered one of the easier accents for learners.
Fees, rent and everything else cost less than London — which usually means you can afford to stay longer.
Why us
Every teacher holds a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL as an absolute minimum, and many are qualified at Diploma level and beyond. We are accredited by Trinity College London to train new teachers, which means the people teaching you are the people other teachers learn from.
Accommodation is found and inspected by our own staff rather than an outside agency, and every adult over 18 in a host household is DBS checked. We are part of inlingua International, the largest association of privately owned language schools in the world, with more than 350 centres in 40 countries.
The most beautiful school with nice and very professional teachers. I felt well here during my stay in August. Rebecca, adult student

Because we are the only private English language school in the town. In a big city you are one of thousands of international students and it is easy to spend a month speaking your own language. Here the people around you are British — harder work, and considerably more effective. London is still two hours away for a day trip.
Yes. We run junior programmes for ages 11 to 18, including a summer camp, placements in British state schools, holiday camps and group study tours. All are supervised by our staff, and our safeguarding arrangements are published in full.
Courses start every Monday, all year round, for students aged 11 and over. Check your level, price it up, and reserve a place — none of which costs you anything.
