A state school placement is the best way for young students to enjoy a totally immersive British cultural experience. inlingua Cheltenham is proud to offer this opportunity for international students aged 11-18 to understand what it’s like to live like a British teenager. This affordable alternative to private schools is a great option for students.

We work with a number of local schools who are happy to accept international students to join their classes. If a student has proficient English, they will be placed into a classroom with British pupils.
This course is for students from the ages of 11-18. Students aged 11-16 will join the school year for their age and will study up to 12 subjects a week. This will be taught in English, and the student will be in a class with mostly British students. Students aged 16-18 will join A-level classes, where they will study 3 or 4 subjects in depth.

Please note that State Schools in the Cheltenham area are predominately British schools and therefore make no provision for international students and will not have EFL support classes. We recommend that if a student is not up to an intermediate level of English (B1), then a period of EFL classes with inlingua Cheltenham should be completed first.

State schools in the UK run a three-term year. Terms start in September, January and April. Students can enrol in this course from one week all the way up to two terms. Start dates are entirely flexible.
We will arrange accommodation that best suits the needs of the student. The host families we provide for state school students have great experience helping teenagers adjust to life in the UK. Cheltenham is a particularly safe, clean and pleasant town. Parents should be assured that their children are in good hands. We can also arrange a guardian as a service for an additional charge.

Price includes:
-Placement in a local state school
-Full school curriculum of up to 12 subjects at GCSE level or 3/4 A levels (subject to course options available at each school)
-Full board homestay during school placement weeks (choice of packed lunch or school lunch)
-Daily transport to and from state school

Price does not include:
-School uniform and school expenses for materials and educational trips
-English courses at inlingua Cheltenham during school breaks
-Homestay accommodation during school breaks
-Airport transfers
-Personal insurance for the duration of the stay
-Registration and accommodation fees
-Personal spending money

School holidays and breaks:

Students who choose to do a long-term placement at a state school (maximum two terms) will have school holidays at different times throughout the year. Some holidays, like half term break, Christmas and Easter, last for a week or more.

During these breaks, inlingua Cheltenham students must either take English courses at inlingua Cheltenham or return home for the duration of the holiday. Under 18s may not stay at their host family’s home without a supervised daily schedule of lessons.
