Junior courses · Ages 11 to 18
Study alongside British pupils at a state secondary school in Gloucestershire, living with a full board homestay arranged and inspected by inlingua Cheltenham. Placements run from September to July, from one week up to a maximum of two terms, for students aged 11 to 18 at level B1 and above. Prices start at £695 per week and include the school placement, full board homestay and daily transport to school.
This is the deepest immersion we offer. Your child attends a real British secondary school with real British classmates, studies the same subjects they do, sits in the same lessons and does the same work. Nobody slows down. That is the point.
We work with several state schools in and around Cheltenham. Students are placed at a school with availability that suits their age, year group and subject requests. In the evenings and at weekends they live with a full board homestay, which is where a great deal of the language actually happens.
If your child is anxious about their English before starting, they can take English classes with us first. Either way, the first day is spent at inlingua Cheltenham for induction and orientation before school begins.
The classes are really engaging, and I feel like I've improved my English a lot, especially in my speaking and confidence. Junior student
Each school runs a buddy system. On the first morning a member of inlingua staff and school staff show your child where to go, and a British student of the same age takes them to lessons.
inlingua Cheltenham provides transport every day — by bus, taxi or school van depending on the school and host location — and the same transport back afterwards. It is included in the price.
Your child studies the same subjects as their buddy. Some schools offer a choice of subjects for over-16s taking A-levels.
Either a packed lunch prepared by the host or a hot lunch at school. There is no difference in price between the two.
No school will require you to buy a uniform, though you may if you want to. Schools will ask that your child dresses in smart clothes. If they already own a school uniform from home, that is the best option, and some schools will lend one.
Your child will not receive an official grade report from the school. They will receive an attendance report and a written summary of their performance and participation from their teachers.
One thing to know in advance: students usually cannot join after-school clubs, because the daily pick-up and drop-off schedule does not allow for it. There are sometimes exceptions where a student is placed at a school close to their homestay.
One weekly price covering the school placement, full board homestay and daily transport to and from school. The rate falls the longer your child stays.

British schools close for roughly thirteen weeks of the year, and those weeks are not evenly spread. Planning around them is the single most useful thing you can do before booking, so here are Gloucestershire's published dates in full.

Dates published by Gloucestershire County Council. Academies, foundation and voluntary aided schools may set their own dates, so we will confirm the exact calendar for your child's school. Schools also take five staff training days a year, set individually, on which pupils do not attend.
School holidays are not covered by the weekly placement fee. Families have three options for each break: fly home, book our School Holiday Camp, or — for students aged 16 and over — join a General English course at inlingua Cheltenham.
There is no provision over Christmas. The school closes for two weeks, our own school closes from 19 December to 2 January, and hosts have their own holiday plans. Students on a placement spanning Christmas should plan to travel home.
Half terms and Easter are covered by our School Holiday Camp, which runs at inlingua Cheltenham for students aged 11 to 17 who are studying at a local school. A week of English lessons, activities and trips, with the full board homestay continuing.
20 English lessons, two excursions and four afternoon activities, with full board homestay accommodation included. Ages 11 to 17. Requires a minimum of four enrolments to run, so tell us your dates early.
See School Holiday Camp →Older students can join our adult group courses during a break instead. General English 20 in the mornings, or Intensive English 30 with afternoon exam preparation. From £375 a week.
See group English courses →Full board means all meals, seven days a week, including weekends when there is no school. Our own accommodation officers find and inspect every home against British Council standards, and hosts placed with long-stay students tend to be the most experienced on our books.
For a term-long placement this matters more than for a two-week language course. Your child will spend more waking hours with the host than at school, and it is where their English will move fastest.
If you have a problem or a concern at any point during the placement — about the school, the homestay or anything else — you speak to a member of inlingua Cheltenham staff and we deal with it. More on accommodation.
We work with several state schools in and around Cheltenham. Students are placed at a school that has availability and fits their profile — age, year group and subject requests. We confirm the school before you travel.
At any point during the school year, from September to July. Be mindful of school holidays and exam periods, which is why the term dates above are worth reading before you choose. Contact us with the dates you have in mind and we will tell you what is possible.
From one week up to a maximum of two terms. The weekly rate falls with length: £775 for a single week, £750 for a half term, £725 for a term and £695 for two terms.
Term breaks are not included in the placement price. For half terms and Easter, students aged 11 to 17 can join our School Holiday Camp at £850 a week, which includes full board homestay. Students aged 16 and over can join an adult General English course instead. There is no provision over Christmas — students should travel home.
B1 and above. This is a genuine requirement, not a formality: your child will be following normal lessons in a class of 20 to 35 British pupils with no language support. If they are close to B1 but not quite there, they can take English classes with us first.
Not an official school grade report. They will receive an attendance report and a written summary of their performance and participation from their teachers.
No school will require you to buy one, though you may if you wish. Schools ask that students dress in smart clothes. If your child has a uniform from their school at home, that is the best option, and some schools will lend one.
Usually not, because of the daily pick-up and drop-off schedule. There are sometimes exceptions where a student is placed at a school close to their homestay.
Visa requirements depend on nationality and the length of stay. A placement of more than six months usually requires a Short-Term Study Visa. We issue visa support letters once a deposit and administrative fees have been received. Guardianship arrangements vary by school and circumstance — we work with Greatway Guardianship, an AEGIS-accredited company based in Cheltenham, and can advise on what your child's placement requires. Check the current immigration rules on the UK government website, as they change.
Placements are matched to school availability, so the earlier we know your dates the better the fit. Reserve a place in about two minutes without paying anything yet, or email us with your questions.
Prices valid for courses starting in 2027. Term dates from Gloucestershire County Council, checked August 2026. Last updated August 2026.
