Trinity Certificate in TESOL

Trinity Certificate in TESOL

(Cert TESOL – Trinity College, London)

The Trinity Cert TESOL (‘Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages’) course is the entry level qualification for a career in EFL. It will equip you with the basic skills and knowledge needed to teach English as a second or foreign language. Sessions deal with all aspects of teaching a language in a practical way and are led by real teachers. You will also teach classes of real students, with detailed feedback to help you improve your teaching skills.

The Trinity Cert TESOL is a level 5 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF is replacing the QCF). In other words, it is comparable in difficulty to the second year of an undergraduate degree. The course has a Total Qualifications Time (TQT) of 200 hours. It is one of only two TEFL certificates recognised by the British Council. (Online and other EFL courses are not recognised as valid qualifications in UK language centres inspected by the British Council)

No teaching experience is required – this course is open to anyone with the qualifications for entry to higher education, such as A-levels. Places are only offered after an interview. Typical participants include:

  • College graduates
  • Professional people looking for a career change
  • Teachers of other subjects
  • People who see TEFL as a means of living and working abroad
  • Gap-year students
  • People looking to host and teach students in their homes.
  • Non-native English speakers and international applicants are also welcome.

Non-Native Trainees: If English is not your first language, you should have an advanced level of English equivalent to CPE, CAE or an IELTS score of 7.0, TOEFL 600.
Previous participants have gone on to become TEFL teachers in countries as varied as: Argentina, China, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Japan, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey and the UK.

We cannot stress enough how intensive this course is. Throughout the four weeks there are assignments which will need to be completed outside of the classroom so it is important that you are certain that you can combine home and work commitments at the same time.

If you would like to meet with us to discuss your needs in further detail as to whether this course will suit your requirements then we would be happy to help you. You can also take part in a Taster Day. This costs £60 and is refundable against the course cost if you decide to take the course. You will meet with our Head of Teacher Training, observe lessons and discuss your needs in greater detail.

“Training with you has really changed my life so much for the better. It was a great course, really well and professionally run and the feedback I was given and teaching models we were exposed to have been invaluable and really informed my own teaching.” Katy

Adding on one-to-one lessons to a programme is a great way to help a student focus on any individual goals or weaknesses. Our students study everything from specific technical vocabulary to concentrating on writing skills or preparing for an exam that we do not offer group classes for. The one-to-one classes will be tailored to the student’s needs and add real value to their learning. One-to-one lessons will be held after group classes have finished.

We can help you get to where you want to go when it comes to your English language ambitions. This option is recommended in particular for beginners or advanced students as we would recommend that beginners join an MCIP course for a couple of weeks before joining our elementary classes.
